Scammers have upped their game and they’re calling customers in our area – don’t be fooled by them. Every scam is different, but most of them have a few things in common and one of them is the sense of urgency: I need you to do this right now. “You must decide today,” or “I need an answer in the next few hours,” is the lead-up to the scam. If someone asks you to write something down, or to tell them how many bank accounts you have, there’s a chance you’re being played. Also, if you’ve really won a contest or sweepstakes, you will not be asked to make a payment of any kind to claim your winnings. And payments should all be traceable; legitimate businesses have legitimate details that can be verified. Be wary of people that request cashier’s checks, gift cards or other untraceable sources. If in doubt please feel free to contact a banker or your local police department. We’re here to assist you.
